PR is for any business, large or small, but it’s important to understand what public relations is – and, just as importantly, what it isn’t. PR isn’t just about media relations.
Modern public relations understands that your business is porous: it relies upon outsiders to create value and who expect value in return.
This means it’s important to draw up a list of stakeholders and publics (and to understand the difference). We also look at how to prioritise them and, crucially, to build relationships.
It’s not enough, though, to create value – we also need to communicate it. This is true internally, as well as externally. How do we do that in an SME?
We then look at earned media and understand why it’s so important. Does coverage matter? If so, what type? And how can we get it?
The morning ends with a look at crisis planning and how it can save a business.
