Due to its technical nature, IP law can be rather dry. We understand that businesses do not want an arcane legal lecture - they want useful, practical information, that can be applied in real life scenarios within their own business. This workshop will do just that - deliver pragmatic advice about IP in an accessible and down-to-earth way. The emphasis will be on the commercial reality of getting the best out of IP in real commercial settings, based on practical experiences and the experiences of the attendees themselves.
The 3 hour session will encourage an interactive approach with plenty of group discussions and lively conversations.
The workshop will include a summary of the main types of intellectual property rights, explaining how each may be relevant to the attendees, how they are obtained or protected, and the key risks and opportunities they present.
Attendees will be provided with supporting material and information resources, for use both during and after the session along with a bespoke ‘IP Handbook’ created specifically for the workshop.
The workshop will be delivered by John Buckby and Paven Munder. They are both practical, engaging, switched-on lawyers, who relate to the objectives of real businesses and translate technical concepts into plain English.
John is a dual-qualified solicitor and trade mark attorney, who has specialised in intellectual property law since 2006. Before qualifying as a solicitor, John gained first-hand experience of running his own businesses in the media industry for 10 years, and regularly negotiated and concluded contracts and licences relating to IP rights.
Paven is a specialist intellectual property solicitor, who is currently studying a Post-Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law & Practice at Oxford University. Her academic knowledge of IP law, coupled with several years’ experience of providing practical advice.
