“We can all worry about carbon when we’re flush with cash. It’s much harder when you’re trying to keep your business afloat and we understand that. But there are hard cash savings to be made from reducing your carbon emissions as well as indirect cash savings from maintaining your staff’s wellbeing so they’re not off sick.” This is what presenter Ian Murdey says to anyone who thinks going green will be hard work, too expensive and not a priority.
This dynamic, practical and collaborative session will demonstrate how going green can make real business sense to your SME. It will focus on travel – to work and for work – and how this could be approached differently to help reduce your carbon footprint, particularly coming out of a year-long lockdown in which many of us have had to change the way we work.
This session is about people and not about moving goods or haulage or carbon in the supply chain.
We understand that it can be more challenging for SMEs to change because they have fewer resources than larger companies so we will focus on the real challenges for SMEs, including how to change behaviour using no-cost and low-cost approaches.
There will be no preaching!
We understand that everything including making green changes, has to answer a business case and that is simple – when you save carbon, you save money.
Who Should Attend?
Like all of the Zero Carbon webinars we’re running, this session is primarily aimed at small and micro businesses. So you will probably be the owner or a senior manager in that business and able to implement the changes we recommend. Ideally, you will already be interested in contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and willing to put a little bit of time into making no-cost and low-cost changes to the way you do business.
What will we cover?
In our wide-ranging session we’ll be asking about your primary concern regarding transport in the city. What bothers you the most - congestion and travel times, emissions and air quality, parking, other health and wellbeing issues?
We’ll look at the data on harmful carbon emissions nationally and locally by transport type as well as discussing different issues around travelling to work and for work. There will be practical advice on how to calculate your travel-related emissions and how to create a travel survey. We’ll take a quick look at how electric vehicles can help but don’t solve the issues of congestion, parking or wasted time.
And of course, we’ll look at the business benefits of becoming a net zero carbon emissions company. We’ll finish off by planning with you for the changes you can make now, in 6 months and a little further on.
