Managing disciplinary processes strikes dread into most employer’s hearts. Easy to get wrong, and potentially stressful for all parties, matters need managing confidently, sensitively and fairly. An understanding of the principles, and key skills are a prerequisite for managing the disciplinary process.
This 6-hour action planning workshop is delivered in two 3-hour sessions and explores the disciplinary process from start to finish, you should attend both parts:

This digital event will provide you with the key skills you need to confidently manage disciplinary procedures in your workplace and remotely.
This is a highly interactive workshop so expect lots of discussion and sharing of best practice, you will participate in a mock investigation where you decide whether there is a case to answer, and we will explore practical issues that arise during the process and options for managing these.

- Describe why having disciplinary and grievance procedures are essential for your business.
- The difference between (mis)conduct and capability.
- The ACAS Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance, what is it and how does it apply?
- Dealing with matters informally versus how to decide when an investigation is necessary.
- How to produce an investigation plan and manage the investigation process.
- The role of suspension and investigations, when to suspend and when not to.
- Listening and questioning skills to use during an investigation.
- Dealing with difficult witnesses and uncooperative employees.

- A mock investigation where you will decide the outcome based on the evidence.

- What to do if the employee is signed off sick during the disciplinary process.
- Organisational and procedural aspects of a disciplinary hearing.
- What to do when an employee fails to attend the disciplinary hearing.
- Employee representatives and trade union representatives, their role in the process and how to manage this.
- Chairing a disciplinary hearing and managing witnesses.
- How to review the facts of a case and draw conclusions based on the balance of probabilities.
- Following up a disciplinary hearing and managing appeals.
- Penalties and how long these remain on record.
- Records and data protection as part of the disciplinary process.
- Hybrid working and managing disciplinary processes remotely.
